Infinite Reach Agency, Target Audience

How to Define your Target Audience

No matter what type of business you operate, defining your target audience can be difficult. It’s also a necessary piece of the success of your business.  Why is it so important? Without knowing the people you want to target, you can’t create a successful marketing strategy.   You could have a marketing strategy in place, but it would be very unfocused. When you understand who your audience is, that’s when you can plan where and how you need to market to them.  And focus your efforts on that targeted group of people who will most likely need your product or services.

Here are 4 steps you can use to define your target audience and improve your marketing strategy in the process.

Identify the problems your product or service solves

When you create a business plan it starts with the problem(s) your product or service is going to solve.  These problems are a key piece in defining your target audience.   When you know the problem you can start to understand the type of people your business is going to help.

At Infinite Reach some of our clients don’t have the time or knowledge to focus on SEO or Social Media Management, but they know these are important parts of their strategy.  So, our services take the internet marketing piece off their plate so they can focus on other aspects of their business. It helps solve a business owner’s biggest problem, not having enough time in the day to get everything done.

Determine your Target Audience

The time consuming piece is going out and actually researching the demographics your product or service solves a problem for. You want to start with primary research in the form of surveys, interviews or even questionnaires to get an overall sense of what type of people are interested in your product.  And then from there, pull in some secondary research on demographics and consumer behavior to build a bigger picture of who those people actually are.

Group your Audience into Personas

This keeps the research you’ve done around your target audience top of mind for both you and your team.  So now everyone from your sales team, to marketing to website development knows the type of people who are going to be using your product or service.  And this is going to be important for each of those departments to know.  A web developer needs to know the type of people you want your website to attract and the marketing team needs to know who these people are in order to plan a strategy.

Personas also put the research you’ve done in step two into something more tangible for your team to work off of.  People tend to relate better when you pull out an actual case study of a potential customer than when you hand them a spread sheet with a bunch of numbers on it.  Instead, pull from that data and create actual personas that outline each of the people from your target group.

Focus your Marketing Plan around your Target Audience

Now that you understand who your audience is, you can plan a more focused marketing strategy around those people.  You understand who they are, what they want and where you can find them.

With this knowledge you can figure out what types of marketing will resonate the most with them and where you should be spending your marketing dollars. Will they shop online through Pinterest? Or do they still prefer brick and mortar stores?

Now that you understand your target audience learn more on how you can show client appreciation in this new blog post.

Earned Media

Earned Media: Can’t Live With It, Can’t Live Without It

Earned Media- Learn to love it

Earned media is what comes out of a consumer’s experience with a brand. It can be wonderful and it can be painful. A brand is what its customers say it is. But where does one find what people are saying about a brand? Social media. When we think about marketing, we don’t necessarily think about trust, yet earned media is trusted by consumers far more than paid or owned. Why? Because people trust what their peers have to say- and what they’re saying is on social media.

Creative Content > Big Budgets

Social media has become a huge player in the game of earned media. It is an environment where conversations about brands can thrive and relationships can be built between consumer and company. What was once a one-way interaction between brands telling consumers what to believe, is now an equal playing field of listen and respond. It is no longer true that brands with the biggest marketing budget will win. Now, those that know how to actively engage with consumers creatively on social media are the top dogs. Brands have the opportunity to become personable. Believe it or not, brands can construct personalities on social media that consumers love- or love to hate.

Give them something to talk about

Doesn’t it make sense for brands to be where their customers are? Not to say that simply making a Facebook account means you’re golden, but a brand needs to know how to play its cards right. Take a look at the demographics of social media audiences. Should the brand live on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or somewhere else? Once that audience is located, what does the brand need to be in order to entice likes and interactions? How does the brand offer promotions and ask for feedback? Although there is a much more complex answer, the simple answer is to create content that is exciting and relevant for consumers. Social media management is at the core of earned media success, making it a necessity to have a superior understanding of how social media plays into a brand’s marketing strategy. Infinite Reach Agency understands social media marketing and can help your business flourish on social media. If a brand is what customers say it is, then let’s give them something to talk about.

creating images

Creating Images for Your Social Media

I wish I had that instinct knack for creating images and designing graphics to use for our clients or for our own company’s social media purposes.

Our Infinite Reach graphic designers are truly amazing! Anytime I ask for a graphic to be created or a client even needs a new cover photo for Facebook, I am always in awe with the end product.

As Andy Warhol said, “I never read I just look at pictures” and I’m sure many of us can agree with that statement. There’s no doubt that images are an extremely important aspect of social media marketing. They help to drive greater online engagement and keep users interested. To me, a picture says 1,000 words!

images are important

For the Non-Designers…

46% of marketers say photography is critical to their current marketing and storytelling strategies. Both video and infographics have become powerful tools for companies looking to communicate easily with their readers. So, if you’re looking to add some spice to your next social media post, then add some images.

So you want to create eye-catching images. Do you want to engage with your viewers? It can be difficult, but there are some key principles in learning how to create images to use for social that work every time.

Create a Balanced Layout

You want the picture to be simple and balanced. The layout of the objects in your images can make all the difference in the way the final photo turns out. The image below is super easy on the eyes. If the pencils were scattered and the books were all over the place, the photo wouldn’t be as great to look at.

balance in images

Proximity in Your Images

Something else that’s important when creating your own designed images is the proximity and the alignment. Merriam-Webster defines proximity as “the state of being near.” So in our case, grouping different elements of a picture together so that the viewer can see various parts of the message you are trying to convey.

For example, you don’t want an icon too close to the text of a picture in very close proximity because you want each component of the picture to stand apart and fulfill its own role. Take a look at the ad below. The icon visually communicates details about the brand itself, while the text communicates what this particular chapstick brand does for your lips.

proximity in ads and images

Color

Leslie Cabarga is the author of The Designer’s Guide to Colour Combinations. She believes that color is not just a visual element, but it’s also emotional. She says that:

“A poor choice of colors affects us subconsciously is a fact observed by many real estate agents. Potential buyers viewing a house with ugly wallpaper will often reject the whole house. I recall as a child not being able to eat in a certain restaurant whose walls were painted a pale, 1950s green.”

If color really does elicit emotions in us all, then you can see why it’s so important to choose colors for your  images that will draw people in.

Make sure you think about the role the colors will play in your creations! You want to also make sure that you’re creating contrast.

Font

Are you creating a graphic that has wording on it? Be sure to choose fonts that are not only readable and consistent, but also fonts that communicate a message about your brand and your company.

Think of choosing a font like selecting an outfit to wear. The clothes that you choose reflect who you are as a person and also parts of your personality and style. If you walk into an interview for a new job wearing a t-shirt and jeans rather than a suit, you will leave the employer with a very different impression of you.

How to Select Fonts for Your Graphics:

  1. Simple is always better.
  2. Try and steer clear from fancy fonts.
  3. Be consistent by using the same font repeatedly for all of your graphics.

So…

Take notes, non-designers! If you’re feeling brave enough to create your own image, I would love to see some photos in the comments. Also, let me know what resources have helped you nail down some great designs!

Infinite Reach Agency Happy Employees Blog Feature

Happy Employees Are Important To Your Business

You may think that your employees disposition is of no consequence to your bottom line, but nothing could be further from the truth. Happy employees are not only important to your business, they are iInfinite Reach Agency Happy Employees Blog mportant to every other employee as well. Happiness, or the lack there of, is a contagion that can spread like a wildfire.

Your business is undoubtedly your baby. You nurtured it from the very start. You spent countless sleepless nights up worrying about what would happen to it. So why would you then turn it over to people who are unhappy with it? The chances of them caring for it like you do and taking care of it are nil.

Trusting your baby to happy people is just smart business. Therefore, understanding the benefits of happy workers and knowing how to keep them happy are extremely important to both your business and the well-being of your team.

The Benefits of Happy Employees

There are several benefits to having happy workers, some of which may surprise you. One of the most impressive benefits of a happy worker is that they are, on average, 12% more productive than people who didn’t identify either way. On the flip-side, unhappy workers are 10% less productive. An increase of 22% efficiency simply by being happy is pretty impressive, the possibilities are mind-boggling.

Another thing that might surprise you about happy employees is that they are great marketing tools. If your team is happy and love their jobs, they are going to tell everyone. They are also going to treat your customers better. Your customers will then tell their friends and colleagues and before you know it, everyone is talking about how great your company is.

Happy workers are not only more productive; they are more creative as well. When your team is happy, they are more likely to share their ideas and be receptive to new ones. Happy people have an easier time freeing their minds which allows them to come up with new and innovative ways of doing things.

The list of benefits that comes with having happy employees is endless. In addition to being more productive and creative, they are also more sociable and generous. They are also healthier and more energetic which translates directly into better work habits and less sick days.

Happy employees are also more likely to stay on the job. In most businesses, the cost of on-boarding and training a new employee can run into the tens of thousands of dollars, so it pays to keep employees as long as possible. I could go on and on about the benefits of happy workers, but the bottom line is this. Happy employees are more reliable and better at their jobs than unhappy ones and we should make a decided effort to keep them happy.

Ways to Keep Your Employees Happy

You may think that the only way to make or keep your employees happy is to give them a raise but this is not the case in most instances. A majority of workers will respond more favorably to perks and rewards than they will to more money. There are several ways to boost team morale and spirit that don’t have to cost a lot of money.

One of the best ways to promote good feelings without spending any money is with hand-written notes. This is something that our Co-founder, Kristi Church is great at. She is always giving us little hand-written notes of encouragement when we need it, or praise when we do something good. Not only that, but she gives us notes of appreciation once in a while that let us know that we are special and valued members of the team. I absolutely love my job and those little notes are part of the reason.

There are so many ways to reward your employees. Everyone loves food. Team lunches and company picnics go a long way towards unity and happiness. Surprise pizza parties and ice cream on hot summer days can spread a surprising amount of good will as well. You could also consider introducing coffee and fresh fruit or Danish to your morning creative meetings. Having food at creative meetings fosters a more open atmosphere and people will feel happier.

The most important thing to remember when trying to decide what to use as a reward for your employees is to keep your employees in mind. Make sure the reward is something that they will give value to. The idea is to be sincere in your attempts to keep your employees happy. If you are not sincere, your employees will see right through it and the whole thing will backfire on you.

Keeping your employees happy is not only easy, it is important to your bottom line. Happy employees are more productive, creative, and reliable than unhappy ones and they are terrific brand ambassadors for your company. With so many ways to keep your team happy and engaged, there is no reason not to have happy employees.

Social Media: News, Statistics and Trends

Social media is so popular nowadays! I personally always catch myself checking Instagram and Snapchat every chance I get, just to make sure that I’m up to date with the rest of my social media friends!

Also, I love to show what I’m doing in the moment- whether it’s sending a Snapchat of my feet by the pool or posting a picture of my friends and I at dinner on Instagram.

There’s no doubt that the world of social media moves extremely fast and it may be hard to keep up with all of the latest trends and news involving your favorite social media sites. There have been some big things happening in the social media world, so let’s take a look!

Facebook

Facebook is probably one of the most familiar social media sites. It’s easy to navigate and it’s a fantastic way to connect with and update your friends, family members and loved ones. Here are some statistics:

  • 1.09 billion daily active users on average for March 2016
  • 989 million mobile daily active users on average for March 2016
  • 1.65 billion monthly active users as of March 31, 2016
  • 1.51 billion mobile monthly active users as of March 31, 2016
  • Approximately 84.2% of our daily active users are outside the US and Canada

1.65 billion monthly users… that’s insane! In comparison to other very popular apps, Facebook takes the cake for the most active users.

social usage

Twitter

Twitter has changed the way it categorizes itself. As of their April update, Twitter sits as the top free app in the News category in the App Store rather than categorizing itself as a Social Networking site.

social trending

Before, when Twitter sat in Social Networking in the App Store, it was ranked 6th. Now that it has separated itself from other social apps like Facebook and FB Messenger, it has moved to the #1 spot in the News category.

While I do believe that Twitter is very popular, at least among millenials, ranking #1 could be a nice change for Twitter as a whole! It will give Twitter the visibility in the App Store that it needs, which can ultimately lead to more downloads.

Snapchat

This is one of my favorite social apps! I used to hate hate hate it, but the more that I used it, the more it grew on me. For those of you unfamiliar, Snapchat is a video messaging app that allows users to send pictures or videos to another user, but they are only viewable for a set duration between one and ten seconds. After that, the ‘snaps’ automatically delete. Here are some key data points:

  • Snapchat has 100m active users with 400m snaps sent every day (Source: Mashable)
  • The company is currently valued at $19b (Source: Fortune)
  • Snapchat Discover is the app’s way to generate ad revenue (Source: MoneyMorning)

social on snapchat

As you can see, Snapchat has a lot of great features. Snapchat’s daily video views have also hit 10 billion. It’s reported that there has been a 150% increase in video consumption on this social app in just under a year. That’s some incredible growth. Pretty nuts if you ask me!

Pinterest

Another one of my favorites! Honestly, I’m not sure where else girls can find outfit inspiration, crafting tutorials, and cocktail/healthy dinner recipes all in one app. Pinterest is a pretty amazing place. I’m guilty of browsing through the app pretty much every time I’m bored.

Aside from all of the great things to discover on Pinterest, the app just released Featured Collections, which is a way to take a look at what’s trending but in an even easier way! Thank you, Pinterest, for adding fuel to the fire aka my addiction to this app 🙂

YouTube

Another popular social site that people use not only for personal reasons but companies and businesses utilize YouTube for marketing and company-related purposes also.

YouTube announced that there will now be 6-second ads that can’t be skipped by users. They’re calling them “bumper ads” and are “ideal for driving incremental reach and frequency perform,” according to Google.

Social Media Takeover

So by the looks of it, social media is slowly taking over. It has definitely become a staple in my life, and I know that it has for many businesses and individuals as well.

Social media is an amazing tool and it’s great that we are able to access a variety of information at the touch of our fingertips. As a business, you should be taking advantage of all that social media has to offer.

Any social media trends, new features or stats that have caught your eye lately? I’d love to hear them. Let me know in the comments!

brand consistency

Why is Brand Consistency Important?

Why is brand consistency so important?  A brand, as defined on BusinessDictionary.com, is a unique design, sign, symbol, words or a combination of these, employed in creating an image that identifies a product or differentiates it from competitors.  In short, your brand is your company’s identity.  It helps your customer build an impression of what your company stands for.  Keeping your brand consistent allows you to build a rapport with your customers so they trust your company and find it synonymous with a positive experience.

When we work with clients on branding packages, we keep the messaging and visuals consistent with the marketing standards we’ve created for them.  We want to keep that cohesion through their business cards to the website to their marketing materials.

Brand Recognition

brand logos

Photo from GlobalBrandsMagazine.com

Once you build that relationship with your customer you don’t want to lose that due to inconsistent messaging.  If you keep everything from marketing to product packaging consistent that brand recognition will start forming in the minds of your customers.  It takes 12 times for your customer to see your color and recognize it in association with your brand. That recognition is invaluable and can eventually lead to brand loyalty.

Brand loyalty is when you have consumers that become devoted to your brand and will continue to purchase your product over competitors.  From my personal experience, if a product I use on a normal basis is sold out at a store, I usually won’t even look at the competitor products, but instead check other stores.  These are products I recognize from when my mom purchased them during my childhood and I have a connection to them now.

Helps Differentiate You from Competitors

While establishing your brand recognition, you were also showing your customers how you are different from the competition.  People who shop at Wal-Mart value their “Everyday Low Prices” and they make sure to keep that verbiage consistent in their branding.  Target customers seem to be willing to pay more especially when Target collaborates with high end designers.  Both companies use brand consistency to build a relationship with their ideal customer.

They also want their customers to think of them first when they need a product or service.  So, by keeping their brand consistent, they are top of mind to those costumers.

Case Study: Aligned at Work

case study Aligned at Work

We recently completed a Website Design & Branding package for one of our clients, Aligned at Work.  We always start these projects by understanding who our clients target market is and what their business goals are.  This particular client targets business professionals, so we wanted the branding to consistently speak to that audience.

In order to achieve that we made sure everything from the logo, to the website reflected a clean and professional image.  When we created presentation folders, letterheads and business cards, the branding was consistent.  That allowed for all of these key pieces to present the same brand image to potential and current clients.  This helps them stand out from the competition and also becomes familiar to customers.  From the moment they receive a business card, visit the website and go to their first workshop they have a consistent message from start to finish.

Understanding the importance of brand consistency will allow you to develop a strategy that helps develop brand loyalty in your customers.  Need help creating your brand identity?  Contact us today for a free consultation, we would love to help and learn more about your business.

Infinite Reach Agency Saying No Is a Virtue Blog

Saying No Can Be a Virtue

We all know that certain someone. That person who is always late for the meeting, who is always frazzled and on their way to or from somewhere in a big hurry. We all know that person who seems like they are busy from sun-up to sundown but they never get their own things done. We all know that person who can’t say no.

People are genetically designed to want to please and to be liked by other people. Saying yes creates positive emotions which we interpret as acceptance and connection to others. When we say no, it is interpreted as a negative thing which creates tension and even distrust.

According to Psychology Today, “Neuroscience supports our hunch that No is going to register far more harshly than we may have intended. The human brain is hardwired to respond to No more quickly, more intensely, and more persistently than to a positive signal. No is stronger than Yes”.

Saying no can even lead to conflict. But, even though it can be viewed as a negative, sometimes no can be very positive. Saying no will not cause others to not like you, on the contrary, it may have the opposite affect and people will respect and value you all the more for your true talents and not simply because you are the go-to guy.

Saying No Is Important in Business

There are many instances in business when not being able to say no can get you into trouble or even hold you back from your ultimate potential. Every office has that person who is always getting into trouble for talking at their desk. They talk to everyone who goes by; they are sure that if they don’t listen to that story about Carl’s cat or Debbie’s mother-in-law that they won’t be liked or appreciated.

Talking to your coworkers and bonding is important, but not at the expense of your own job. You may think that people will be upset or not like you if you don’t have time to talk to them every time they pass by, but you may be surprised. People may start to respect you more for your work ethic and skills and like you for who you really are.

Possibly the most important reason to say no in business is, if you say yes all the time, people will never know where your true talents lie. When you say yes to everything, even the things that you are just okay at, you run the risk of seeming ordinary or average.

When you say yes only to the things at which you are really good, your bosses and coworkers will see exactly what you can do. When you run around doing everything, the things you really excel at can get lost in the mix and forgotten. It may sound counter-intuitive, but saying no may be the most important thing you can do for your career.

Don’t Say Yes When You Should Be Saying No

There are times in life when you should say yes, and there are definitely times in life when you absolutely must say no. There are certain things to keep in mind when deciding to say yes or no. You should never say yes because you’ll feel guilty if you don’t. Don’t say yes when you know you don’t have the time or when saying yes goes against your own personal belief system.

If you are the giving type, there are those people out there who will use and exploit you for their own selfish needs without ever giving a single thought to you or what you want or need. These people are users and don’t care about anything but how much they can get out of you.

When users get their hooks into you, it can be difficult to get free from them. they have a way of making you feel guilty, but you must say no for your own peace of mind. You should just gather up all your courage and give them a firm, unwavering no. It may be hard for them to understand at first but they will eventually get the message when you do not come through.

You should always say no when you know that you will not have the time to devote your full attention to the matter. Saying yes when you can’t really give 100% can do more harm than good. Saying no and letting someone else who has the time to commit to the project, will ensure a more successful venture.

Lastly, and perhaps most important, never say yes when it conflicts with your personal beliefs. We all need to be true to ourselves and the ability to say no, may be the biggest truth of all. So, if you are the type of person who always says yes, take small steps and say “I’ll think about it” instead of automatically saying yes. That buys you some time to think about it and may help soften the blow if the answer turns out to be no in the end.

Infinite Reach Website Updates Blog

Staying on Top of Website Updates

Designing the perfect website takes hours of painstaking and arduous work like picking out the pictures and writing the perfect content. Trying to pick the right colors and fonts alone can take quite a lot of your time. Once you finish the design and get your website up and running, you take pride in your work and expect that it is going to stay that way.

But things change so fast these days, that it seems like there is a website update every time you turn around. Some updates come with a warning so you can prepare for them, but other updates are automatic and catch you completely by surprise, and usually at the most inopportune time.

Automatic Website Updates

With automatic updates from your hosting company, things can change in an instant with no warning at all. Layout changes, missing images, broken links, and disabled plug-ins are just a few of the issues you can encounter.

Updates can happen at any time and can affect many aspects of your site. Most updates are very specific in their nature and only affect certain themes or plug-ins and not the entire site.  Staying on top of these updates can be tricky and requires constant monitoring and maintenance. It takes diligence and a dedicated, professional team to stay on top of automatic updates.

Scheduled Website Updates

Scheduled updates are somewhat easy to stay on top of comparatively. With scheduled updates, you will be notified in advance whenever a change is going to be made.  Most hosting companies will provide you with the details and time and date of all updates so you can be ready. Many sites will also provide you with the tools and information you need to fix any issues that the update may cause on your site.

How Infinite Reach Stays on Top of Website Updates

A recent automatic WordPress Update affected a number of our clients’ accounts. This could have created problems for us and our clients but, at Infinite Reach, we have processes in place to ensure that our clients sites are fully optimized and working properly at all times.

Our first line of defense is our Marketing Manager, Katelyn Flores. She starts each day by checking our clients’ websites to ensure that everything looks proper. If she discovers an issue, she notifies the Account Manager, who immediately goes to work to investigate and solve the issue. Katelyn does not have time to fully check out each website every day, so we have yet another process in place.

Twice a week, our Account Manager’s do an in depth look at each of their clients’ sites. They go in navigate the entire site to make sure that everything is working properly. They look at and read every page to ensure layout changes have not been made that affect the content, as well as play all videos or slideshows, and try all the links and tabs.

Our Team is dedicated to providing the very best service in all aspects of our business. Making sure we stay on top of website updates is just one of the ways we serve our clients’ needs. If you need help staying on top of your website updates, please contact our Marketing Manager, Katelyn Flores, for more information on how we can help you.

Tips to Make Email Standout

5 Tips to Make Your Email Standout

With the information overload people are faced with every day, it’s no surprise companies need to get a bit more creative for their message to be heard.  On just one of my email accounts I literally have 10,000+ unread emails, and that’s because I just can’t keep up with the amount coming in.  I’m sure most people have a similar inbox, and that just shows how important it is for companies to stand out from the flood of emails their customers are getting every day.  But don’t worry I’ve come up with 5 tips to help make your email campaigns standout!

Who is the email targeted at?

The first step is understanding which audience you are sending your email to. Is this email aimed at potential leads or existing customers?  You need to know who the audience of your email is before you can start creating your email. Understanding the audience helps tailor your messaging to meet their specific needs.  This will help not only the open rate, but will also increase the amount of people who actually click through to items in your email.  If your email is sending to a new list of customers this could also determine whether or not, they unsubscribe from future sends.

Pull them in with a catchy, unique subject line

Don’t be afraid to get creative.  That teaser with just enough information helps drive people to click in and see what you have to talk about. You probably won’t get too many people clicking on an email with a subject like “September Newsletter,” but if you jazz that up a bit to “The 5 SEO Tips you need to know about” that prompts more engagement from your audience. Remember, your subject line is the first thing your audience sees when they scroll through their inbox, so you want something that’s unique, creative and pops out at them.

Keep the branding consistent

This may seem like an obvious thing to consider, but it’s important your branding shines through in your email marketing campaigns. Of course the body of your email is going to change based on the messaging, but keep the header and footer consistent.   Keep certain elements the same, so when your customers open the email they immediately recognize your brand.

And of course the email design and layout

This is going to be unique to your brand, and it’s going to be a crucial piece in capturing the attention of your audience and pushing them to engage with your email.  A great visual, even if it’s simple can help draw your customers and audience in better than a page of text.  Make sure to add in some color to help the email pop and also draw attention to important pieces of information you want people to see.

Another important part of the layout and design is which platforms you want people to be able to view your email on.  Some platforms automatically adjust your email to fit the various devices people may be viewing it on, but others don’t. So, you need to test and make sure your email layout fits the device your audience is most likely to view it on.

Infinite Reach Email Marketing

Don’t be afraid to do some A/B Testing

Testing the performance of your emails is going to help determine what works best for your business.  This is where you fine-tune the process you have for creating and implementing them.  You have tips to get you started, but you still need to find the perfect pairing of all those factors for your business. Most email marketing services offer and option for A/B testing.  So, you can test the open rate of various subject lines, the time sent, or even the actual layout of your messaging.  This will help you determine what your audience really wants.
