Write Your Best Blog Posts!

Any good SMAM (that’s Social Media Account Manager in our world) will tell you that a successful blog can be a huge key in your online and social media presence. We’ve discussed the many things a blog can do for your business before, but now we’re going to analyze the building blocks of this multifaceted strategy: the blog posts themselves.

Blog Titles

These can be a starting point, but more often become the last thing added to a post. A good title is calibrated to maximize the SEO of your blog post, but doesn’t sacrifice style. It should be eye-catching, and make reader want to dive into the content of the post. Ask a question, create a call to action, or reveal what comes next. Is your post in the form of a list? A how-to guide? These crucial details will give readers an idea of what to expect, which will draw them in to read the rest of your post.

The Content

We talk a lot about content creation here at Infinite Reach. Looking for individuals within your target audience, enhancing your style for maximum SEO, and adapting to the jargon and norms of a client’s industry are some of our strengths. It takes a special blend of readability and new ideas to really make readers really think when they come across your blog. Every post you add should reflect this balance.

Every blog post and its content should also follow a few general guidelines. It should be free of grammatical errors, should be stylized for your target audience, and should be different from the content of your previous post. This last part is crucial. Variation will ensure that readers continue to return to your blog. Don’t use the same type of post or subject matter for consecutive blog posts (ie: don’t have two “how to’s” or listicles in a row; alternate instead). Avoiding monotony will keep your current audiences engaged and help to draw in new readers with each installment.

Brevity

Keep your blog posts short and simple. An in-depth article or guide can be a part of your strategy, but readers coming to the blog for short-form content will lose interest if they come across a text wall. Stick to the relevant facts and examples, and be sure you stay away from “fluff.” This article from copyblogger.com sums it up well: “don’t use more words when fewer words will do just fine.”

Trends

In the ever-changing online world, it’s important to keep up with trends and hot topics. These can be everything from humorous memes to breaking news stories. Fresh ideas will show your audience that you pay attention to the same things they do. But be wary; too many “hot takes” will distract from your brand, and forcing the joke or reference will come off like a gimmick. Make sure that the trends you address fit within your brand’s scope, so you can stay relevant instead of reaching too far outside your potential customer base.

Non-verbal Content

Images, videos, and other non-verbal content can really strengthen your blog posts. We’ve recently discussed on our blog how graphic design and communicating visually can enhance your brand’s storytelling power.

When choosing images and videos, it’s important not to settle for any old stock images. If you come across an image—even a perfect one for your post—in a similar post by your competitor, don’t use it. You want your images to stand out as much as your words.

Similarly, videos and links to outside articles and content should be thoroughly vetted. Read the articles fully and watch videos to the end, lest you end up quoting a piece that ends up refuting the central claims of your blog post. You must imagine that everyone reading your blog will click on every link, watch every video, and peruse every image you add with scrutiny.

With these guidelines in mind, it’s time to start thinking about how to really harness the power of blogging. Contact us at Infinite Reach today to get started!

New Beginnings: Your Guide to Rebranding

No matter how long your business has been in the game, it’s important to keep apace of the changing market. Target audiences may be shifting, expanding, or contracting faster than ever before and it’s all you can do to keep up with them. Sometimes this is easy, but sometimes it requires a radical shift on the part of your business. With the new year approaching, it’s time to take a look at one high risk (but potentially very high reward) moves: rebranding.

What Does it Mean?

Rebranding can be done many different ways, but the ultimate goal is the same: to create a new identity for your brand. We’ll talk about some of the strategies for this later, but the first step to successfully rebranding is to identify what your current brand is.

You can do this by looking at your brand elements. This includes everything about your brand from the name down to the logos and catchphrases. We’ve laid out everything you need to know about brand elements here. Rebranding means that some or all of these elements are going to change.

Why Rebrand?

If your business is steadily growing, reaching new audiences and turning them successfully into customers, a rebrand may not be right for you. Rebranding works best when there are opportunities for you to seize that no other strategy will reach.

Perhaps your original target audience was too narrow, and a rebrand will broaden your appeal. Perhaps as you move into larger markets, competition is stronger and you need to evolve stand out more. Or perhaps feedback from customers shows that some of your brand elements are confusing, BLANK, or downright boring.

Rebranding Dos and Don’ts

If you’ve decided a rebrand is the best option for your company, there are a few things to keep in mind as you move forward. Rebranding is a risky move—you want to proceed carefully and make sure you analyze every decision.

DO:

  1. Keep what worked from your old brand; a new logo might be in order, but you don’t always have to change your brand’s name, or vice versa.
  2. Try and be consistent. We’ve discussed how crucial brand consistency is before, and you don’t want to lose any loyal customers as you rebrand.
  3. Give your audience something to talk about. A new slogan to try out, a new story to experience—anything that gets them thinking and talking about your brand.

DON’T:

  1. Alienate your current audience. Focusing on new audiences is great, but remember who supported your brand first. Brand loyalty works both ways.
  2. Toss out your entire brand. Starting fresh may sound like the right idea, but with an original brand identity you carefully crafted, there are many elements you can and should recycle. Maybe a new logo, but consider using the same colors, fonts, etc. This will also bridge the gap between your old brand and your new one in the audience’s minds.
  3. Just change one element. Remember in 2009 when RadioShack became “The Shack” but didn’t change anything else about their brand? Yeah, neither do we, because it was a really bad move and they’ve since changed their name back. We found that gem in this article from entrepreneur.com—they have tons more golden rules of rebranding backed with real-world examples.

Your brand is a reflection of your business’s heart and soul. Changing it may be necessary to keep up with the rapid shifts in today’s markets, but remember that your company’s appeal will always come from the core of ideas and strategies that you first dreamed up. If you’re considering an extreme makeover, business edition, get in touch with us today to talk about how to make your brand stronger in 2017. And from all of us at Infinite Reach, Happy New Year!

If you let someone else take care of some of the tasks on your to-do list, you’d be surprised how much it helps! Delegation is key to creating a healthy balance between your work life and the rest of the things you like to do when not at work.

Promote your Business

In order to attract new customers, it’s important to promote your business regularly and consistently. Embrace social media, start a blog, utilize YouTube… these are juts a few of the ways to do so; all of which Infinite Reach specializes in! If you’d like to create a marketing plan for your business, we’ve got you covered.

Network

There’s nothing like talking to other business owners or other business people to spark new ideas in you, improve old ones, and simply make new connections. Our team personally loves attending our local NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners) which really gives us a chance to chat with likeminded leaders in the business world! Try and find a group specifically designed for networking, or another organization or monthly event that takes place and is dedicated to a particular type of business that interests you. Being a part of a group will boost you and your business.

Need Something New?

Is there a piece of equipment in the office that’s hindering your success? Is there something that you lack that’s also making your work life a bit harder? Don’t try to make do; go out and get something new! Maybe it’s buying that new fax machine or hiring a new employee to help lighten the workload. Whatever it may be, don’t put it off if it’s something that you know you need! Let the new year be a new start.

Setting Realistic Goals

There are many benefits of setting goals for your business – just determine that these goals are attainable rather than unrealistic dreams that might be ultimately out of reach. This is a valuable habit to get into, especially for the new year.

Re-Evaluate your Mission Statement

Every so often, especially with the start of the new year, it’s a good idea to look at your mission statement and overall goals and review them. If your business has been around for a few years, chances are things are different now than when you began your business. It’s possible that what you originally set out to do isn’t exactly what ended up with, which is completely okay! That’s why you take sometime to assess these aspects of your business.

Ask for Feedback

Resolve to ask for feedback, and listen to it. Your employees, board members, advisors and clients alike will appreciate that you asked for their feedback on your business and the improvements or changes they think might make you more successful. There’s room for criticism that you may not be prepared for, but all feedback can be good feedback!

Consider customizing your questions to each of your audiences. For instance, your employees’ feedback will help you forecast client growth and troubleshoot and problems inside the office. Board members’ or advisors’ opinions can bring that outside perspective that you need, which can be very valuable to your business as a whole.

Realizing what’s going good and what might not be working for your business can help you see past any challenges and potentially find solutions, and also help you envision long-term fulfillment.

To a Better Year

By making your New Year’s resolutions, you’re giving yourself a goal to achieve. So as long as you aim towards your goal throughout the year, you can consider your New Year’s resolutions a triumph! If you apply these somewhat simple yet effective New Year’s resolutions to your business throughout the new year, you’ll feel better personally and have more energy to put into your business and make it the most successful year you’ve had yet!

Infinite Reach Agency, How to use LinkedIn for your Business

How to use LinkedIn for your Business

Depending on the type of business you have LinkedIn may be better for finding employees, promoting your business or both.  If you’re business to business, then LinkedIn can be a great tool to find employees and connect with potential customers.  It’s actually 277% more effective for lead generation than Facebook and Twitter.  It offers a lot of great tools to help you reach and connect with the people you need to.

The First Step in Your Lead Generation Strategy

You can use LinkedIn as the first step of your lead generation strategy.  Connect with individuals you see as both prospective customers and people who could be great strategic partners.  Once you make those connections on LinkedIn you can move those people into your lead generation plan. Whether that be through requesting an initial meeting for potential strategic partners or asking prospective customers to join your email list, it’s a great place to create those connections.

Establish your Company Page

Just like other social media pages you want to make sure you optimize your LinkedIn company page.  Include a branded header image and be sure to fill out every item applicable to your business.  LinkedIn also offers Showcase Pages which allow you to create branded subpages off your company profile that target a specific demographic from your audience.

For example, Microsoft has Showcase pages that promote Microsoft Office and another one that promotes their training and certification.  It makes it easier for your customers or potential employees to find the content they are interested in without having to scroll through your page.

You can also have a tab for careers, so people looking to work for your company can find out more about the company and the positions you have open.

Create Your Own LinkedIn Group

Another great way to use LinkedIn is to create your own LinkedIn group.  You can invite people you are already connected with or find a new pool of people through other groups and advanced search features.  Once you establish your group you want to make sure to post quality content and encourage participation from other group members.  Having a group allows you to showcase your expertise and build your list of potential prospects.

Advertise on LinkedIn

You can also advertise your business on LinkedIn.  Whether that be promoting a post on your company page or a specific product, LinkedIn has a similar set of tools as other social networks to help you target the right people.

One of those advertising options is Sponsored InMail, which allows you to send personalized messages to prospects.  This could be a great tool to use when you need to increase attendance to a webinar you are hosting or get the word out about a new product your company is offering.

Infinite Reach Agency, How to use LinkedIn for your Business

Use LinkedIn as a Recruitment Tool

And then of course you can use LinkedIn as a recruitment tool.  The advanced search options allow you to target specific people that meet the job qualifications you are looking for.  You can then message them through LinkedIn and see if they are interested in the position.  You can also purchase a job listing which LinkedIn then pushes out to qualified applicants who are searching for a position similar to what you have open.  They also provide you with a list of applicants that could be a good fit for the position you just posted.  So, you can then send InMail to those candidates as well.

LinkedIn has a lot of great tools that businesses can use to not only create an even further reach for their brand but to also build a community of prospective customers and employees.  It allows you to showcase what your business is all about and why people would want to work with you or for you.

The Ins and Outs of Graphic Design & Communicating Visually

Graphic design is everywhere around you! It delivers messages on everything from what cereal to buy at the store to what the discount or promo code is for a certain week. From street signs to billboards to the logos on your t-shirts to the packaging of that online order you purchased, graphic design is a way to quickly communicate an idea using visuals.

Words, photos, illustrations and text are just a few examples of how graphic design is displayed on things we see on the daily.  Graphic design is a way to tell a story in a matter of seconds with only a few words, or simply an exciting/eye drawing image.

Layout

A page full of words is still an example of graphic design. Think of a magazine article – there is a variety of ways the words can be organized on the page. You can divide them into columns or bubbles, you can stagger certain words and place images in between paragraphs, add a header to the page – the possibilities are seemingly endless. The page layout depends on the message and the audience, but it is nonetheless graphic design in some way.

Typeface

The text you decide to use alone communicates an idea. Compare Times New Roman to any other font. Times New Roman is commonly found in newspapers and academic journals/articles, typically to communicate formality, importance, or professionalism. Since this is historically how this specific font has always been used, when you see this particular font you take the information that’s written with it seriously. Not many designers would use this text to design a poster because it’s not visually stimulating enough or appropriate. Each font you consider when designing something needs to be appropriate for the particular audience you’re targeting the image to.

Images and Words

Graphic designers often use photos and illustrations along with words because it’s an effective way to convey something quickly. Imagine you’re driving and see a billboard advertisement with a picture of a juicy steak that says “Hungry?” right underneath. Go ahead and compare that to a billboard with only words saying, “Eat a juicy steak if you’re hungry.” Which do you think is more effective?

Logos

One of the fastest ways to communicate something is with a symbol, such as a logo. Most companies/brands will use color and imagery to reflect their values. As a company or organization develops, their specific logo slowly yet surely becomes a part of them  – synonymous with their reputation. Logos are a symbol of trust and ownership of a product.

When you see a little white apple, you most likely associate that with Apple, the multinational technology company. When you see that huge yellow and red ‘M,’ you think of McDonald’s. The logo instantly communicates the value and safety of that certain product. The second you see a certain logo, you immediately decide if you trust that brand and want to use those products.

So, Graphic Design…

So, what exactly is graphic design? I hope this blog post summed it up for you! It’s a fast and effective method to communicate visually with a certain audience. Every logo, text, layout and image screams a message. When designed well, your audience will immediately understand its quick coding system. The world would be a much more difficult place to decipher without  graphic design.

Do your marketing materials need a refresh? Lucky for you, now through November 30th, Infinite Reach is offering 15% off all graphic design projects!  Including flyers, social media graphics, business cards, sales sheets, posters, brochures and more! Contact us today!

Criticism at Work

How do you handle criticism at work? Most people would like to avoid criticism as much as possible, and will go to great lengths to keep from being targeted. However, there are ways to handle it that can help you keep a positive mindset.

Types of Criticism

There are two main types of criticism. One is the kind that is simply being judgmental toward another person or their work without regard to their feelings or if you are helping them. This is known as destructive criticism.

The other kind is more thoughtful and does take into consideration the well-being and growth of the person on the receiving end. This is called constructive criticism, and is the best type to have coming your way.

Handling Criticism

Different people handle criticism in different ways, as there are many types of personalities out there. Some people respond with defensiveness, anger, getting upset, or even crying depending on how the words are said.

Some of the best ways to handle criticism are to be detached to what is being said and listening to the information that is being given to you. Ideally, you will be experiencing constructive criticism, but either way, it is wise to consider whether there is any truth to what is being said.

No matter the delivery, oftentimes that hurtful observation from a co-worker or your boss has some truth to it. Do you spend too much time taking breaks to be on your phone? Do you think that your idea is the best every time there is a company meeting?

These are things you can look at and consider. Maybe you need a change in your attitude or in your perspective. If you see that you are doing those things that are being pointed out, maybe it is time for an adjustment to your behavior. Taking criticism well and listening is also a sign of a good leader. Read more in our blog, 4 Tips for Becoming a Better Leader.

Negative Criticism

Of course, there are times when someone is upset about something and just wants to vent their emotions, and you are the unfortunate target. In this case, it is important to speak up for yourself.

In situations where you are doing your best work, and someone constantly has bad things to say to you, you can always talk to a superior. This is not helping the atmosphere in the workplace, and may start to affect your performance.

The best way to deal  with this person directly is to not react to them, as this often spurs them on. Do not take personally what they are saying, as it is their own issue and insecurities that are being directed towards you.

Positive Criticism

These are some of the best words that someone can speak to you. Many times, people with more experience or skills can help you by pointing out something that you could be doing better. In this scenario, they want to help you improve and take your work to the next level.

This type of criticism can help you to self-reflect and make a decision as to whether you will make a change or if you will continue at your current state. When people decide to take constructive criticism and use it to their advantage, great progress can be made, and can make you stand out at work.

Being able to take criticism and use it to better yourself is a good skill to have, as well as being able to give someone else constructive criticism. It may help you to get a raise or even a promotion!

Infinite Reach Tips for Becoming a Better Leader

4 Tips for Becoming a Better Leader

Being a good leader has to do with a lot more than being a good manager. Managers direct people in how to go about doing their everyday duties, whereas leaders shape the future of an organization by having a vision of the future, and inspiring her team to share that same vision. For a long time, the universally held belief was that leaders were born and not made. Well, that old adage no longer rings true. Becoming a better leader is easy, it just takes a little work. if you are interested in becoming a better leader, these tips will help.

1. Know Who You Are

The most important thing a leader needs to know, is herself. When you know who you are, it is easy to imagine where you are going. To be a great leader, you must get people to follow you, and how can you do that, if you do not know where you are going? To be a truly successful leader, you must know who you are, and demonstrate that to your team.

2. Learn How to Listen

A great leader knows that listening is one of the most important skills they can have. When building relationships with your team, it is important to really listen to them. When you are having a conversation with someone and they are not truly listening to you, you can tell, and your team can tell when you are not listening to them as well. If your team feels like you don’t care about their input and ideas, they will stop sharing. Take the time to listen to your team and you will become a better leader.

3. Treat Others How They Want to be Treated

Everyone knows the old adage that you should “treat others as you would want to be treated”. In today’s world, in order to become a better leader, it is more important to treat others as they would want to be treated. Today’s work environment is a diverse mix of people and cultures, and it is more important than ever to get to know each person on your team as an individual. In order to become a better leader to your team, you need to find out who they are, what makes them happy, and what motivates them. That way you can tailor your leadership style in order to make the most of each person’s potential.

4. Don’t Remain Silent

In order to become a better leader, you have to learn to speak up. When you lead a team, whether formally, or informally, they are expecting you to protect them. I know it is sometimes tempting to sit by and say nothing about what is happening around us. But when you lead a team, that is not an option. Your team is expecting you to defend them; they are expecting you to keep them safe and secure. They need to know that, no matter what, you have their backs. This includes speaking up for them when necessary. Be vocal in organizational meetings, make sure everyone knows the value of your team, and never be afraid to question the circumstances when they affect your team.

There are many ways to become a better leader. If you are trying to improve your leadership skills, focusing on knowing yourself, learning to listen, treating others the way they want to be treated, and speaking up for your team, will help you get a great start.

Good Luck!

Three Keys to Your Holiday Marketing Strategy This Year

Now that we’ve passed Halloween, the season of late fall and winter holidays is officially beginning for many people. Decorations are going up, plans are being finalized, and budgets are being assessed as the end of the year approaches. For your brand, this is a time to really think about the coming months and devise some a marketing strategy for capitalizing on the holiday season. Here are three keys to keep in mind.

Know Your Audience

First, you’ll want to think about how your target audience is spending the season. Will most of them be celebrating holidays? If so, which ones? You don’t want to alienate anyone by focusing on certain holidays but not others, and if your target audience includes people of many different beliefs, make sure to be inclusive! Just like the iconic Starbucks holiday cup that is already drawing speculation, your clients may have expectations that should be taken into account.

The second step to this is to think of how they will be spending those holidays, and how that will relate to your business. For example, many retail businesses will be gearing for Black Friday around this time, preparing special deals and discounts to draw customers in. Restaurants and other food service businesses should have a plan for the holidays that most families will spend at home, and another plan for those days and nights when many people go out. Knowing your audience is something we’ve written about before, and this time of year it’s worth thinking about some more.

Social Media

The holidays should definitely be a factor in your social media strategy for the next few months. Capitalizing on the festive season will boost your engagement and help you to stay relevant with the ever-changing trends on Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms.

There are a ton of creative ways to connect your brand with the holidays on social media. A few of them are:

  • Photo contests—get your clients to send in their best decorations!
  • Donation Drives
  • Giveaways—it’s the season of giving!
  • Themed events—trade your Halloween costumes in for ugly holiday sweaters!
  • Puns—your wit is your friend when it comes to attracting web traffic.

Holiday-themed trends and campaigns are an essential part of your marketing strategy this holiday season.

Don’t Get Lost

Odds are, if you’re using the holidays as a jumping-off point for your marketing strategy, so are your competitors and many other businesses. It’s important to make sure that while you share in the collective good spirits, you still stand out among all the noise on social media and other online traffic.

Staying true to your brand guidelines is the key here: think about your company’s values and how they shape your brand. This will help in determining how your brand elements can be adapted for the season. Our comprehensive look at brand elements here might be a good starting point, as you can think about the goals of your brand in relation to the season. Your unique twist on the holiday spirit will help you and your brand stand out from competitors.

Social Media Management: Why you should act now!

When thinking about the benefits of engaging with consumers on social media, there are some obvious benefits that come to mind first: brand awareness, measurement capabilities, and opportunities to push sales. However, there are some less obvious, but extremely important benefits when it comes to social media management.

Participation Is Key

Yes, posting on social media can make a world of difference for your brand. You could have the most amazing posts that get tons of likes, comments, and shares. However, you still wouldn’t be fully capitalizing on those posts without actively managing your channels. Simply watching how your posts are performing isn’t going to be enough over the long haul. This is where participation comes into play. Make sure your brand is dedicating time to social media management by having conversations with users and providing excellent customer service in order to grow the community. Stay educated on social media best practices to stay relevant as a brand. If you know your resources are limited in this area, enlist the help of an agency.

Fast-Paced Social Media Management

Keeping track of what people are posting on your brand’s accounts, whether they’re positive or negative, is a great way to encourage a more loyal brand following and take care of issues customers are having. If Jeremy comments on a post “This is awesome! I love your products and I always recommend them to friends!”, take a moment to say thank you and maybe even consider rewarding them somehow. They are taking time to write about your brand, so you should take the time to respond. It’s easy to assume that a well thought out response is the best way to go, however, a quicker response is actually better. People expect a response to their question on a social channel within 4-24 hours. The younger the audience, the quicker the expectation.

User Generated Content

Users often times write about brands they love on social media and even post pictures or videos. It is important to recognize these users as fans and leverage that content to the brand’s advantage. Let your fans help with content development! Take Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign for example. Plenty of consumers are taking fantastic photos on their iPhones and Apple was right to optimize this opportunity! Needless to say, the amount of people posting photos for Apple increased rapidly after the brand started featuring fan photos. Social media management allows you to keep up on posting user generated content, therefore fostering a more loyal community. There are so many reasons to act now and put together a social media management plan or utilize the expertise of an agency! Take full advantage of social media to get to know your consumers even more and become a responsive brand.

Pros and Cons of Automating Your Marketing Tasks

These days, it seems like machines can do more and more work for us. The rising trend in automation has gone from a sci-fi pipe dream to a daily reality—in other words, the future is now! Most people think of cutting-edge technology like self-driving cars when they think of automation, but have you considered the way in which automation can be harnessed for marketing through Social Media and blogging? Here we’re going to talk about some of the pros and cons of automation and how to harness them for maximum potential.

Pro #1: Consistency

We’ve written before about how important it is to update your web and blog content on a consistent basis. It’s especially helpful in helping your ranking on Google, which helps your business get discovered by new clients. Scheduling content ahead of time is a great way to stick to your content calendar, and a version of the function exists in virtually all blog and website-building programs.

Pro #2: More Time for Other Work

With your blogs set to post for weeks in advance, you can use the extra time for other work, whether it’s marketing-related or another aspect of making your business run smoothly. For, example, if you’re planning an event and want to remind people about it on social media, you can use a tool like TweetDeck to schedule tweets leading up to the time of the event and focus on other important tasks that need to be done before the event. This is much more reliable than saving drafts you may forget about and not send out when this other work come up.

Con #1: Could Disengage Potential Customers

Though the idea of machines being able to think, speak, and write like human beings is intriguing, right now the content produced by software start-ups like Narrative Science is still a little, well, robotic. A recent study found that while algorithm-based articles on recent events matched human-written ones in many aspects, the most glaring difference came in the area of “pleasant to read.” Taking the extra time to have a real, live person write your content is still the best way to go if you want readers (meaning: potential clients) to enjoy it!

Con #2: Less Variation

Actual human interaction is the real basis of Social Media. That means that merely scheduling tweets and Facebook posts to go out into the void isn’t enough to build engagement with followers and customers. Setting aside time for live tweeting, responding to trending topics rather than relying only on scheduled posts, and commenting on or sharing other users’ posts are great ways to keep the human side of social media present in the automated world of cyberspace.

With all the technology at our disposal, it’s easy to fall into two traps: not taking full advantage of the many things it can do, and over reliance on automation to perform tasks. With these pros and cons in mind, you can save yourself time and stress by having content ready to post early, making more space in your schedule for the human side of online marketing.
